Printing and coating systems, modular systems, and methods of microsystem technology
The Fraunhofer ZSI pilot line comprises state-of-the-art printing and coating systems for processing a wide range of different substrates, including flexible films, polymer materials, glass, ceramics, and biocomposites.
The modular design of the systems allows for the implementation of classic printing processes such as flatbed screen printing and roll-to-roll processes, for example rotary screen and flexographic printing, as well as digital and additive manufacturing methods, including inkjet printing, microcontact printing, and various 3D printing processes: extrusion bioprinting, FDM (fused deposition modeling), and MSLA (masked stereolithography apparatus) for bioinks and technical inks.
In addition, microsystem technology methods such as lithography, plasma coating, and etching processes can be integrated into the process chain.
A particular focus is on the development of sheet-to-sheet processes that are specifically designed to be transferred to roll-to-roll processes at a later stage in order to enable efficient production of very high quantities on an industrial scale.
Post-processing such as punching/cutting, laminating, and assembly with electronic components enables complex products to be manufactured with high precision and reproducibility.
